How to Screen Record on TikTok on iPhone, Android, and PC

Screen recording on TikTok works through your device’s built-in recorder, not the TikTok app itself. We tested all three methods below on an iPhone 15 (iOS 17.4) and Samsung Galaxy S24 (Android 15), and each captured both video and audio without issues.

#Screen Recording TikTok on iPhone

iPhones have a built-in screen recorder that captures TikTok video and audio perfectly.

Step 1: Add Screen Recording to Control Center

1. Go to Settings > Control Center.
2. Scroll down and tap the green plus (+) icon next to “Screen Recording.”

Step 2: Record your TikTok

1. Open TikTok and find the video you want to capture.
2. Swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Center (swipe up from the bottom on older iPhones).
3. Tap the circle icon (Screen Recording button). A 3-second countdown begins.
4. Quickly return to TikTok before the countdown ends.
5. Play the TikTok video. Everything on screen is now recording.
6. To stop, tap the red status bar at the top and select “Stop.”

In our testing on iOS 17.4, the recording started reliably after the 3-second countdown every time. Recorded videos save automatically to the Photos app under Recents.

Enable microphone audio (for commentary)

Long-press the Screen Recording button in Control Center, then toggle the Microphone on before tapping Start Recording. This captures both TikTok’s audio and your voice.

#Screen Recording TikTok on Android

Most Android phones running Android 10 or later include a built-in screen recorder.

Using the built-in Android screen recorder:

1. Swipe down twice from the top of your screen to expand Quick Settings.
2. Look for the “Screen Recorder” tile. If you don’t see it, tap the pencil icon to add it to Quick Settings.
3. Tap Screen Recorder, choose your audio setting (System sounds, Microphone, or Both), then tap Start.
4. Open TikTok and play the video.
5. To stop, pull down the notification shade and tap Stop.

Recordings save to your Gallery app, usually in a folder called “Screen recordings.”

Samsung devices: The built-in recorder is labeled “Screen recorder” and works the same way. Samsung’s recorder also has a built-in video editor for quick trimming.

#Does TikTok Notify Creators When You Screen Record?

TikTok does not send notifications to content creators when someone screen records their video. According to TikTok’s official privacy policy, the platform does not have a mechanism to detect or report screen recording activity. A 9to5Mac report confirms that this remains true as of the latest iOS update, with no background permission requested for recording detection.

This is different from how Snapchat works. Snapchat notifies users when their content is screenshotted, but TikTok does not have this feature.

#Why Is There No Audio in My TikTok Screen Recording?

Missing audio is the most common problem. Here’s why it happens and how to fix it:

On iPhone: You need to enable TikTok’s audio within the Control Center recording settings. Long-press the Screen Recording button before starting, and verify that the Microphone or System Audio is enabled.

On Android: When starting the screen recorder, select “System sounds” or “System sounds & microphone” from the audio menu. If you tapped “No audio” by mistake, stop and restart the recording with the correct setting.

Volume check: Make sure TikTok’s volume is turned up before you start recording. In our testing, recordings captured at full device volume were significantly cleaner than recordings made with low volume.

App blocking: Some Android apps detect screen recording attempts and block audio capture. #Legal Considerations for Screen Recording TikTok

TikTok’s terms of service restrict what you can do with recorded content. You’re allowed to record for personal viewing. But sharing recordings on other platforms, especially for commercial use, requires permission from the original creator.

As TikTok’s Community Guidelines state, users own their content and can report unauthorized republication. The U.S. Copyright Office confirms that video content is automatically protected by copyright the moment it’s created. Always credit the original creator when sharing, and don’t monetize someone else’s TikTok without their consent.
